The 10 Commandments of Cheerleading

  1.  Support all sports at your school, not just the popular ones. (You know how your team feels that the school doesn’t recognize all of the work you put in? The swim team feels that way too.)
  2. Respect your coach. (They work really hard for your team.)
  3. Respect your team & your teammates. (You want the school to respect you? Start by respecting yourselves, show up to practice on time and work hard.)
  4. As a matter of fact, show up early to practice. (Someone once told me..”If you’re early, you’re on time. If you’re on time, you’re late. If you’re late, don’t even come.”)
  5. Show your school spirit.(Make signs, bake food, learn the players names and always participate in theme days.)
  6. Participate, as a team, in community service. (Fill your school’s community service hour requirement while bonding with your team! Not to mention that it builds character, gives your team a good reputation and is greatly appreciated.)
  7. Spend time together as team, outside of practice. (Strengthen relationships, strengthen the team. #teambonding)
  8. Act responsibly outside of cheerleading related events.(How you act reflects on the team as a whole.)
  9. Study and work hard in school. (Defy the stereotype of cheerleaders. After all, you are a student athlete. Academics must come first.)
  10. Have fun. Enjoy yourself. Make memories.(It goes by way too quickly.)
